Re: Your investment in a brighter future

With the mid-year economic forecast announcements just gone, and budget planning around the corner, I wanted to write to you in support of one of the greatest investments that Australia can make - Australian aid.

When we invest in the future of our neighbours, in creating opportunities for children to learn, for women to thrive and for people to find work, we're investing in the building blocks of a brighter future for all. When we work alongside our neighbours to tackle preventable disease, to train teachers and to equip communities, we're helping to build a more prosperous future for Australians, for our region and for a world free from poverty.

In the last two years, we have witnessed the biggest ever cuts to our aid program. This puts Australia on a path that sees us investing our lowest ever levels of aid. That doesn’t represent who we are as Australians, and it just doesn’t make sense.

Mr Turnbull, I'm calling on you to take the first step to repairing this crucial investment and our reputation by using your first federal budget to invest in Australian aid and fulfilling our global promise to contribute our fair share to a future free from poverty.

I’m looking to my government to make wise investments like this, that represent the kind of Australia I want to live in, that will support our region, and that will help build opportunities for us, and our neighbours.
